(JACKSON, MISS.) The Mississippi Cable Telecommunications Association awarded 3 $1000 scholarships to deserving students during its annual Cable Show & Convention held Mary 14-15 at the Beau Rivage in Biloxi. Students whose parents are employed in the cable industry in Mississippi were eligible to apply. Shandrea Stevenson of Clarksdale; Jacob Boyer of Caledonia and Jeremy Kidd of Enterprise were this year’s recipients.
Shandrea Danielle Stevenson is the daughter of Sharon Stevenson Campbell of CableOne. She is a recent honor graduate of Clarksdale High School and was inducted into the Hall of Fame. Shandrea's accomplishments include Youth Leadership Clarksdale; Tri-County Alliance Nurse Shadowing Program; Debutante' Society Inductee; Family, Career and Community Leaders of America; a blood drive volunteer and a member of the National Honor Society. She plans to attend Mississippi State University where she will major in Biochemistry with a Pre-Veterinary concentration. She hopes to own her own veterinary clinic.
Jacob Boyer is the son of Mark Boyer of MetroCast. Jacob currently has a 4.0 GPA and is enrolled at Mississippi State University majoring in Special Education. He is a volunteer with the Push America philanthropy; chairman of the Executive Council of Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity and also served as the Community Service Chairman in 2012. Jacob served as the President of the American Cancer Society for 2011-2012 year and was the Treasurer of Invisible Children. As a student at MSU, Jacob established the first annual MSU War of the Roses with the support of all 8 Panhellenic Sororities where the competition benefited people with disabilities. Jacob is also a volunteer with the YMCA Camp Chandler, a camp focused on giving children the best experience possible at camp centered around Christian beliefs.
Jeremy Kidd is the son of Robby Kidd of Comcast. Jeremy is currently enrolled at Jones County Junior College where he is majoring in the Physical Therapy Assistant program. He was a high honors high school graduate; a member of Beta Club, and received numerous high school baseball awards. He is currently a member of the JCJC Bobcats Baseball team where he is the pitcher. He was awarded the honor of Mississippi Association of Community & Junior Colleges Pitcher of the Week. At JCJC, Jeremy is a member of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He plans to transfer to Meridian Community College to enroll in the Physical Therapy Assistant Program.
